Sauce Labs Named a Challenger in Gartner Magic Quadrant: Release Assurance has Arrived

Gartner endorses Sauce Labs’ AURA platform, lauding it for completeness of vision and ability to execute.

TL;DR:

  • Gartner positions Sauce Labs in the Challengers quadrant of the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Agentic Software Quality Assurance Platforms.
  • In our view, the placement reflects the vision behind AURA and the thought leadership Sauce Labs has brought to the market as it moves from traditional test automation to agentic release assurance.
  • Sauce Labs AURA (AI-Unified Release Assurance) uses agentic AI, with humans in control, to verify AI-generated code at the speed it's written.

We’re excited to share that Sauce Labs has been positioned by Gartner in the Challengers quadrant of the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Agentic Software Quality Assurance Platforms.

AI is accelerating software development, but enterprises are struggling to make sure quality keeps pace. We built AURA to change that. Our vision is to verify every release at the pace of AI, so teams know their software works and delivers the business outcome it was built for.

We see our placement as a sign that the conversation has moved toward agentic release assurance. Enterprises have stopped asking whether AI belongs in their testing strategy. Now they want to know how fast they can put it to work, and whether they can trust what it tells them.

The AI code verification gap keeps widening

Engineering teams adopted AI coding assistants at remarkable speed, generating a massive volume of functional code. But the ability to verify that code lags, as the additional code does not result in proportionally more finished work.

We call the space between those two curves the AI code verification gap. When verification falls behind, defects slip into production and customers notice before your dashboards do.

Traditional test automation wasn’t built for the AI era. Scripts written for a slower release cadence break every time AI-generated changes reshape the UI, and teams burn the hours meant for new coverage just keeping them alive. Meanwhile, a wall of green checkmarks still can't answer the question leadership cares about most when machines write much of the code: Will this release deliver the outcome the business intended?

From testing to release assurance

Release assurance starts with that question and works backward to the evidence a team needs to answer it with confidence.

Sauce Labs AURA (AI-Unified Release Assurance) brings agentic AI to every stage of that work, with humans in control. AURA agents author tests directly from business intent and run them across real devices and browsers. Then they analyze the results, so teams understand what failed and why. An autonomous learning loop keeps tests stable as your application evolves, so coverage grows over time instead of quietly decaying.

Enterprises using AURA observe 90% fewer production incidents and 47% faster releases. They also reclaim 38% of engineering capacity, time that goes straight back into building.

Under the hood, AURA runs on more than 100,000 real and virtual devices, and the platform holds ISO/IEC 42001 certification for responsible AI management. For teams in regulated industries, AURA also generates the evidence auditors ask for, release after release.

How does AURA keep humans in control?

Sauce Labs AURA keeps humans in control by letting AI agents handle test authoring and execution while engineers review the evidence and approve what ships.

Agentic AI raises a fair question for any engineering leader. Who's accountable when an agent makes the call?

Our answer: your team. AURA does the heavy lifting and shows its work at every step. Your engineers review the evidence and decide what ships. Speed and accountability can coexist, and we think the platforms that earn enterprise trust will be the ones that prove it.

"With AI speeding software development, enterprises need a fundamentally different approach to ensuring software quality," said Prince Kohli, CEO of Sauce Labs, in a press release. "With AURA, we're bringing agentic AI to release assurance, helping organizations move beyond traditional testing to verify that every release delivers on its intended business outcomes. We believe our positioning in the Gartner Magic Quadrant reflects the progress we're making toward that vision."

What’s next?

Sauce Labs was founded by the creators of Selenium and Appium, so we've been part of every major shift in how software gets tested. The arrival of AI-generated code may be the biggest one yet. Our placement in the Magic Quadrant marks a milestone for us, and we're just getting started.
