Tech Talk : Using Sauce Connect with Tunnel Identifiers

May 15, 2020

Sauce Labs Blog

Sauce Connect Proxy™ is a built-in HTTP proxy server that opens a secure "tunnel" connection for testing between a Sauce Labs virtual machine or a real device and a website or a mobile app hosted on a local computer ("localhost") or behind a corporate firewall. It provides a means for Sauce Labs to access applications or websites, not publicly available. When launching a Sauce Connect tunnel, users have two available options:

1) Launch a Sauce Connect tunnel as-is, without identifying it. As a "default," the unnamed tunnel will automatically be used for all automated test runs.

2) Assign a name to the tunnel, known as a Tunnel Identifier. Using this method will provide more control and monitoring capabilities over the tunnel.

Sauce Labs recommends using the latter option. When a tunnel identifier is assigned and set in the desired capabilities. It will use the specific Sauce Connect tunnel each time the test is triggered.
